Volkskrant Magazine, the award-winning weekly supplement of Dutch newspaper de Volkskrant, was redesigned recently. The changes are subtle and organic art director Jaap Biemans told FFF.
“I worked on the redesign for about a month over the summer. Volkskrant Magazine has a fun spirit, allowing me the freedom to experiment with graphic elements and fonts. I love trying things out, messing things up… it keeps me fresh.”
Structurally, navigation has been tweaked. “Headlines, introductions and page numbers have been collated into one grouped element. They can be placed anywhere on the page. I’m excited to work with it each week and develop it further,” Biemans said.
Erik Spiekermann‘s HWT Artz is being used extensively for headlines, reinforcing the magazine’s fun and informal vibe.
